Giving Back To Our Planet

As a small business, I believe in giving back to our planet. Pretty Planet has so far planted 310 trees through Just One Tree, creating rural employment, restoring habitats, and absorbing around 95.48 tonnes of CO2 as they grow over the next 25 years. I’ve also adopted a piece of coral through Coral Gardeners, which will be planted in Fiji to help regenerate vital reef ecosystems. Giving back goes beyond the environment, and so far Pretty Planet has donated over £330 to charitable causes around the world to help support people, communities and our planet.

Can you believe this is Japan? 🇯🇵🌴 Turquoise wate Can you believe this is Japan? 🇯🇵🌴

Turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, tropical islands and a much slower pace of life. Welcome to OKINAWA, Japan’s tropical side. It is proof that Japan has so many different sides to discover. It’s located in the south of Japan, and is an archipelago of subtropical islands with an interesting Ryukyu history, dreamy coastlines and beautiful marine life 🩵💙

🏝️ Which islands should you visit?

🌺 Okinawa Main Island: The best starting point for first-timers, with Naha, historic sites, coastal road trips and beautiful beaches.

💎 Miyakojima: Powdery white sand, turquoise water and stunning coastal bridges. Perfect for beach lovers.

🐠 Ishigaki: A great base for snorkelling, diving and exploring the surrounding Yaeyama Islands.

🌿 Iriomote: A nature lover’s paradise, with jungle, mangroves, kayaking and waterfalls.

🏡 Taketomi: A charming little island with traditional houses, sandy lanes and a relaxed village atmosphere.

🐋 Kerama Islands: Famous for their incredible blue waters, snorkelling and diving, with whale watching in winter.

☀️ When should you visit?

🌸 March–April: Pleasant for exploring as temperatures warm up.

🏖️ May–June: Warmer weather, but the rainy season can affect plans. We visited end of May time and had our fair share of rain!

🌊 July–August: Hot and humid, ideal for beach days but also peak season for crowds and typhoon risk.

🍂 October–November: Often a lovely balance of warm weather and fewer summer crowds, although typhoons are still possible.

❄️ December–February: Quieter and milder, with opportunities for whale watching, but less reliable beach weather.

✈️ A few useful tips:

✨ Allow 5–7 days for the main island, or longer if you want to explore other island groups.

✨ Consider hiring a car on the main island, as public transport is limited outside Naha.

✨ Don’t try to squeeze too many islands into one trip. Flights and ferries take time!

✨ Check seasonal weather and transport schedules before travelling.

These tropical islands deserve a spot on your Japan bucket list 🫶🏻 Save this for your future Japan trip 📌

How early should you get to the airport? ✈️ 🇬🇧 Do How early should you get to the airport? ✈️

🇬🇧 Domestic flights: Aim for 1.5–2 hours before departure

🇪🇺 Short-haul flights: Aim for at least 2 hours before departure

🌍 Long-haul flights: Aim for at least 3 hours before departure

If you’re checking bags, travelling during peak times, flying from a large/busy airport or need extra assistance, give yourself a little longer.

A few extra tips:

🛫 Allow extra time for airport transport and parking.

🛫 Don’t just check your departure time. Check your boarding time and departure terminal too, so you know where you need to be and when.

🛫 Your gate might be further away than you think. Some airports are HUGE, and getting from security to your gate can take 20–30+ minutes.

🛫 Check the check-in and bag-drop cut-off times.

🛫 Don’t leave getting to the gate until the last minute. Boarding can sometimes start early.

🛫 If you’re running late and there is a huge security queue, speak to a member of airport/security staff and let them know your flight is departing soon. They may be able to advise you or help you get through more quickly, depending on the airport and how close you are to departure.

🛫 Check in online as soon as it opens. It saves time at the airport, and some airlines may use check-in time when deciding who gets bumped if a flight is overbooked. It’s not a guarantee of your seat, but it’s a good habit to get into.

These are general guidelines rather than universal rules, so always check your airline’s recommended arrival time and specific check-in/bag-drop cut-offs.

My rule? I’d always rather be at the airport early with time for a drink and a mooch around the shops than running through security wondering if I’m going to make my flight 😂😅

Save this for your next trip ✈️

River views, jungle sounds and slow days in Thatte River views, jungle sounds and slow days in Thattekad 🇮🇳🌿

Tucked away in Kerala in the south of India, Thattekad is one of those places that feels like a little escape from the rest of the world. It has lush green forests, birds singing everywhere you go, the peaceful Periyar River and plenty of slow days surrounded by nature. It makes such a lovely, quieter addition to a Kerala itinerary 🤍

Back in March, I ran a Pretty Planet 2-week tour to India, with the second week spent exploring everything Kerala had to offer. One of my favourite places we stayed was

📍 @amritarariversidecamp

Our stay was pretty special, with cute glamping-style tents right beside the Periyar River, surrounded by greenery and wildlife. Waking up to the river and the sounds of nature was definitely one of my favourite parts of staying here.

While in Thattekad, we also wandered around the local village, visited the Inchathotty Suspension Bridge and headed out on a mini trek to see if we could spot some of the 270+ bird species found in the area.

If you’re planning a trip to Kerala and want to experience somewhere a little different from the usual Kochi, Munnar and Alleppey route, I’d definitely add Thattekad to your list. And if you’d like some help planning and booking your own Kerala adventure, get in touch I’d love to help or comment ‘Kerala’ below and I'll reach out to discuss a potential India holiday for you 🌴

Bangkok’s most famous Thai tea 🧡 If you’ve seen t Bangkok’s most famous Thai tea 🧡

If you’ve seen the videos of the Thai tea lady throwing what looks like half a bag of sugar into a giant drink…this is her! Auntie Nid has been making traditional Thai drinks for over 30 years and has gone viral on social media. Her signature Thai milk tea comes in a HUGE bag and costs just ฿40 (approx £1).

📍 LOCATION
Auntie Nid Coffee Shop
112 Thanon Mahannop, Sao Chingcha, Phra Nakhon, Bangkok (It’s in Bangkok’s Old Town, close to the Giant Swing)

💰 COST
฿40 baht per drink, to be honest they are so big you could easily share 1 bag between 2 of you! Bring cash with you as this is a traditional little street-side shop, so don’t turn up relying on your card.

⏰ WHEN TO GO
Open daily from 6am–3pm. I’d recommend going in the morning, ideally around 9–10am, as it can get much busier later in the day.

🥤 WHAT TO ORDER
The Thai milk tea is the obvious choice, but there are other traditional drinks available too. And if you’re not a fan of things being VERY sweet, you can ask for less sugar!

📌 SAVE THIS FOR YOUR BANGKOK TRIP

It’s such a fun little stop to add to a day exploring Bangkok’s Old Town, especially if you’re visiting the Giant Swing, Wat Suthat or heading towards the Grand Palace.

Would you try Auntie Nid’s famous Thai tea? Comment “ Thai Tea” and I will send you the Google Map location 👀

The prettiest cafe for a girl date in BANGKOK 🇹🇭💗🫧 The prettiest cafe for a girl date in BANGKOK 🇹🇭💗🫧

If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to escape the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, add @bubbleintheforest to your itinerary. It is a gorgeous setting for a catch-up with your girlfriends or even a romantic date! I went a few months back on a girl date with my friend @c.k.travels and we loved it, we just wish they had cocktails, but we made the most of their delcious soft drinks 💕

Here’s everything you need to know before visiting:

📍 WHERE IS IT?
Bubble in the Forest Cafe is located in Sam Phran, Nakhon Pathom, around 28 miles west of central Bangkok. It takes about 45–90 minutes by car, depending on Bangkok traffic.

🚕 HOW TO GET THERE
The easiest way is by taxi or a hire car. There isn’t a convenient direct BTS or MRT connection, so factor in transport when planning your visit. I’d recommend arranging your return journey in advance, as it’s outside central Bangkok. We took the BTS to the end of the line then got a Grab from there.

🎟️ DO YOU NEED TO BOOK?
Walk-ins may be accepted, but if you have your heart set on one of the overwater seats or netted areas, I’d recommend booking ahead, particularly for weekends and public holidays. Seating is subject to availability, so request your preferred area when booking. There’s no standard entrance ticket, you just order food and drinks from the cafe menu.

📸 BEST TIME TO VISIT
I’d aim for late afternoon for softer lighting and a chance to see the cafe as the lights come on. The midday sun is so hot, especially in the uncovered seating areas. Bring sunglasses, sun cream and mosquito repellent if staying into the evening.

🍹 FOOD & DRINKS
Thai dishes, snacks, desserts, coffees and colourful drinks, so you can make an afternoon of it rather than just popping in for photos.

Make this a little day trip out of Bangkok, especially if you’re travelling with your girlfriends and fancy doing something different from the usual temples and shopping malls. Just remember to allow plenty of time for the journey! Save this for your next Bangkok trip, and tag your mate you want to go with 🩷✨

A place I’ve wanted to see for years 🇧🇹❤️ Many ye A place I’ve wanted to see for years 🇧🇹❤️

Many years ago when I was working as a travel agent. We received a brochure delivery at work with Tiger’s Nest on the front cover. I’d never been to Bhutan, but that image of a monastery clinging to the side of a mountain completely stuck with me. Ever since then, I’ve wanted to see it for myself…and now I finally have 🥹

Tiger’s Nest, or Paro Taktsang, is one of Bhutan’s most famous landmarks and an important Buddhist monastery, dramatically built into the cliffs high above the Paro Valley. And yes…you have to hike a little to get there 🥾

The trail is roughly 3.7 miles there and back and takes around 4–5 hours in total, depending on your pace and how much time you spend stopping along the way and time spent in the monastery.

There are two main viewpoints on the hike:

📍 Viewpoint 1: This is the first proper glimpse of Tiger’s Nest, from across the valley. There’s also a cafe here where you can stop for a drink and something to eat.

📍 Viewpoint 2 (this is where the video was taken): The famous close-up viewpoint where Tiger’s Nest appears directly opposite you, dramatically perched on the cliff. From here, you head down into the gorge, cross the waterfall and tackle the final climb up the steps to the monastery.

What a way to spend our final day in. Bhutan. After having that image from a brochure stuck in my head for all these years, finally sitting there and seeing it in real life was pretty special. Sometimes the places you’ve been dreaming about for years really are worth the wait ✨

SHIBUYA SKY - here’s everything you need to know b SHIBUYA SKY - here’s everything you need to know before you go - SAVE THIS! 🇯🇵❤️

@shibuya_sky is one of Tokyo’s most iconic viewpoints, with a 360° open-air rooftop 229m above Shibuya with incredible views across the city, including Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Tower and on a clear day, even Mount Fuji 🗻

🎟️ TICKETS: Tickets currently start from ¥2700 (approx £13) for entry before 3pm, increasing to ¥3400 (approx £16) from 3pm onwards. You can book directly through Shibuya Sky or via @klook_uk, which is a handy option if you want to book activities in Japan. Tickets are released 2 weeks before your visit at midnight (JST), and the most popular times, particularly sunset sell out. If you have your heart set on a particular time, set those alarms! Make sure to book in advance, it sells out, so don’t expect to just turn up and buy tickets on the day.

🎫 SHIBUYA SKY PASSPORT: There’s an annual passport giving holders unlimited visits for one year without needing a reservation, if you’re planning multiple visits or want the flexibility to pop back another day this is a good option. But new passport sales are currently suspended. Existing passport holders can renew, and Shibuya Sky says it will announce when new sales reopen, so it’s worth keeping an eye on this.

🌆 WHEN SHOULD YOU GO?

☀️ Daytime: Great if you want to see Tokyo in daylight and potentially avoid some of the busiest periods. We visited in the late afternoon and found it perfect and not too busy.

🌃 After dark: See Tokyo completely lit up, a totally different atmosphere and definitely worth considering.

🌅 Sunset: Gorgeous, but also the most popular time to visit, so expect it to be busy and book as soon as tickets are released. If you missed out on a sunset slot, try looking for an entry around 3:30/4pm instead. Head up early, enjoy the views and grab a drink at the bar while you wait for the sun to go down.

🌧️ WEATHER: The rooftop may close in bad weather, indoor views usually remain. Keep plans flexible!

🎒 BAGS: No loose items, tripods or selfie sticks on the rooftop. Lockers are available and cameras need straps.

Welcome to The Fig Lobby in Bangkok 🇹🇭 Some hotel Welcome to The Fig Lobby in Bangkok 🇹🇭

Some hotels are simply somewhere to sleep. Others become part of the trip…and @thefiglobby definitely falls into the second category 🪩

This is not your typical boring city hotel. It has colourful interiors, quirky artwork, creative spaces, wellness experiences and plenty going on under one roof. It’s definitely not just somewhere to come back to after exploring Bangkok. You could quite easily spend an entire day here without leaving.

☕️ Start your morning with a coffee and get some work done in the coworking space/cafe
🚲 Get your heart rate up with a @nativecycle spin class
🧊 If you’re feeling brave, head to @theicehouse.co on the rooftop for ice baths, sauna and mineral pool, all with Bangkok views
🎨 Get creative with a pottery, ceramic or art workshop at @sanit_handmade or @linkedart.bkk
🧖‍♀️ Slow things down with a treatment at @the.amalaki spa
🛍️ Browse the little shop and creative spaces dotted around the hotel
💦 Take a dip in the outdoor pool or squeeze in a workout at the gym
🍔 Grab something to eat and head to the rooftop for sunset drinks
🍦 Work your way through the many flavours at the gelato stand

One thing I would say is that I probably wouldn’t suggest The Fig Lobby for first-time visitors to Bangkok. Its location isn’t particularly close to the city’s main tourist sights, so if it’s your first trip and you want to tick off all the big attractions, there are more convenient areas to stay.

But if you’ve been to Bangkok before, have already seen the major sights, or are just passing through the city and want somewhere a little different, then definitely check it out.

We stayed in the Fig Jungle Room 🌿 and it was SUCH a vibe! We paid around £95 per night including breakfast, and it was the perfect chilled-out base for us to catch up on a few errands, treat ourselves to the spa, relax, and enjoy the hotel before flying off to Bhutan ✈️

Add this one to your list if you like your hotels with a little more personality ✨ Send this to someone you would like to stay here with 💕

A few weeks ago we returned from a dreamy little t A few weeks ago we returned from a dreamy little trip to Laos 🇱🇦

Sean and I were originally meant to do a big Laos trip back in 2020 (but we all know how that year turned out 😅). I eventually made it to Laos on a 6-week solo backpacking trip around Thailand and Laos in early 2023, but didn’t have time to explore as much of the country as we had originally planned back in 2020. I stuck to the main tourist trail: Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane.

I completely fell in love with Laos on that trip and have been wanting to go back ever since. While I was there, I met some other solo female backpackers who showed me their dreamy photos of Nong Khiaw…and it confirmed that I needed to come back and see it for myself.

Nong Khiaw is a tiny village in northern Laos surrounded by the most breathtaking scenery. I won’t lie, getting there isn’t the easiest, it’s around 5 hours from Luang Prabang along a very bumpy road, but trust me, it’s worth it! You can take a bus or book a private driver. I’d definitely recommend staying for a minimum of 2 nights, or longer if you can.

There are hiking trails, viewpoints and plenty of things to do on the river, but we decided to do the complete opposite and simply relax. We booked this gorgeous little cabin right on the Nam Ou River, for just £45 a night, including breakfast and switched off and spent our days enjoying the views.

📌 Nong Khiaw The Float House

There are a handful of other little cabins along the river too, but I kept coming back to this one because of those views. A few others that also caught my eye (if you're interested for your trip):

📍 Ou River House Resort
📍 The River Huts
📍 Yensabai Bungalow River View
📍 Pont Inn Nong Khiaw

If you’re planning a trip to Laos, I have lots more places pinned on my Laos Google Map, available in my shop (link in bio) 🫶🏻

Or, if you’d rather leave the planning to someone else, get in touch and I can plan and book your entire Laos adventure for you ✈️🌏😘

Nepal holds a very special place in my heart. Thes Nepal holds a very special place in my heart. These photos are from one of the most surreal and craziest experiences I’ve ever had - trekking to Everest Base Camp 🇳🇵

What made the experience so memorable was the people we met along the way. Our guides and porters were incredible, looking after us throughout the trek, carrying our bags, encouraging us when things got tough and helping us experience the mountains in a way we just couldn’t have done without them. The strength and kindness of the Nepalese people is something I’ll never forget.

Seeing the devastating flash floods that have recently hit Nepal has hit me hard, and I feel very helpless. As a small travel business, I wanted to try to give something back to a country and its people who gave me so much.

For every holiday booking made through Pretty Planet between now and the end of October, I will donate £5 to the @britishredcross Disaster Fund to help support those affected by the floods. This comes directly from me/Pretty Planet, so there is no extra cost to you. Simply by booking your holiday with me, you’ll be helping to contribute.

Plus, 50% of all profits from the products in my shop (Trip Kit, Google Maps, Merchandise etc) will also be donated to help support the people of Nepal.

It might be a small contribution, but if every booking and every purchase can help a little, hopefully together we can make a difference.

If you would like to do a little more, you can also donate directly to the British Red Cross Nepal Floods Disaster Fund through the link in my bio ❤️

Pretty pics from in and around Luang Prabang 🇱🇦❤️ Pretty pics from in and around Luang Prabang 🇱🇦❤️

To say I love LP is an understatement. I absolutely adore this gorgeous, underrated little city and it’s easily one of my favourite places in Southeast Asia 🥹

So many people unfortunately skip Laos and opt for Thailand or Vietnam instead (both incredible, of course!), but I’m here to convince you to please consider adding Laos to your itinerary when visiting this part of the world. You absolutely will not regret it!

Luang Prabang is one of those places that feels more like a small town than a city, and it’s so easy to explore on foot. Wander around and you’ll stumble across the prettiest little streets, hidden alleys, beautiful temples, colourful markets and independent boutiques.

Laotians are some of the warmest and friendliest people I’ve met. There’s just something about the pace and atmosphere here that is so good for the soul 🫶🏻

This was my second visit to Laos, and the first time I came was on a solo backpacking trip. It’s incredibly solo-female-traveller friendly, but it’s also such a lovely destination for couples and families too.

If you’re planning a trip around Southeast Asia, don’t sleep on Laos. Put Luang Prabang on your list, I promise you’ll thank me for it 💫

If you’re dreaming of Laos and would like me to design and book your perfect Laos adventure, get in touch and let’s chat! I can take care of the planning and create a trip tailored to you. Or, if you prefer to plan it yourself, my Laos Google Map is available in the Pretty Planet shop, packed with all my personal recommendations to help you discover the very best of this beautiful country 😍
